With most if not all of iPad users jumping into iOS 5 right now, it brings up a whole lot of opportunity especially when it comes to cloud computing. As you may be aware, iOS 5 is opening the gates of Apple’s much-hyped iCloud service. Well, basically, iCloud offers you a nifty way of backing up and storing some of your iPad contents in the cloud. Unfortunately, you are limited to 5GB free storage only. So, if you think you will be needing more and would prefer to have it for free, you might want to check out Box.net.
Box.netis similar to Dropbox. It offers free storage of files in the cloud which you can access by way of its own Box.net iPad app. The Box iPad app was recently updated to support iOS 5 airplay features and to coincide with this and perhaps as a way of countering Apple’s iCloud service, Box.net has increased the size of free storage that it provides to Box.net users. How much? A whooping 50GB file size limit! Not even Dropbox, my preferred cloud service before can offer this much outright.
To get the upgraded file store, you need to update to the latest version of the app if you have previously installed it on your iPad. If this is the first time you’re downloading the Box iPad app, you will automatically have the 50GB storage. Additionally, the file size limit for uploading files at a time has been increased to 100MB from the previous 25MB limit.
Box.net iPad app is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.
