Quirky App Of The Day: Jelly Jump

Jelly Jump took me a little while to figure out. Mainly, it’s because the game was designed in China. So, the instructions are in Chinese. I actually checked so that I could say with some certainty which language it was. It’s not a difficult game though. It took a little bit of playing around with before I could figure it out. I feel like a Sherlock Holmes of ridiculous apps.

When the app opens, fear not if you don’t speak Chinese and don’t know which part of the screen to touch. After seconds of analysis and many random pokes to my phone screen, I deduced that the green word or statement is the place to tap to begin your game.

The game starts with a little jelly dude on a skateboard ramp. The instructions in the App Store say to touch the screen to make him move. That didn’t work. At all. There were several jelly dudes that gave their life to help me discover that touching the screen isn’t the answer. The real way to get your jelly dude to move is to tilt your phone back and forth. I had more success tilting the phone back at a 45 degree angle instead of straight-up or straight-back. The more you tilt the phone from side-to-side, the farther up the skate ramp he goes.

To what end though? There are coins that are falling down each side of the ramp. You’re trying to be high enough on the ramp to eat the coins. I don’t understand the inner workings of jelly dudes well enough to comprehend the nutritional value of metal coins. I won’t speculate.

The  goal of the game is to beat your last high score of coin gobbling in a set amount of time. If you succeed, the coins seem to power you enough to explode you up to the moon. I assume this is the jelly dude’s home. If you don’t you jump into the depths of the ocean and are eaten by a shark. The nutritional value of jelly dudes is also beyond my comprehension. I still won’t speculate.

Jelly Jump is available in the App Store for the awesome price of FREE!
