People are social beings. The need to socialize, be accepted and interact with other human beings are in our genes. Even in the age of the caveman, the medieval or the Renaissance, the need to socialize still emerges in people through social gatherings and games and tournaments and burning witches at the town square.
With the technology offering us video games, social and casual games became more popular than single player games. The iPad, being a small, portable arcade gadget is no exemption. There are tons and tons of multiplayer iPad games in iTunes, both free and premium. My job here is to introduce you to some of the multiplayer iPad games I have played and liked.
Let’s begin!
You can play Fruit Ninja HD multiplayer in two ways: first one is through the internet, through GameCenter and the other method is by the app itself, splitting the screen in half, which is pictured above.
The objective of Fruit Ninja is fairly simple just slash the fruits, try to make a combo for higher scores and get a higher score than your opponent. This simple concept is very addicting, though. I and my girlfriend have been playing this each and every time we want to kill time.
I know, I know, I am addicted to this game and featured it already in my best tower defense games for the iPad list. I just love it!
The game also boasts the co-op multiplayer feature where three more friends can join you in protecting the Ethernia crystal through WiFi or GameSpy or GameCenter. More towerlicious fun!
Sorry about the picture. I could not find other players in GameSpy when I took it.
Buy Dungeon Defenders: First Wave here.
This game has been a staple in my springboard because it is enjoyable both when played alone and with a friend. The difference with Dungeon Defenders is that the multiplayer is competitive, not cooperative, meaning you try to beat your friend here. You would have to defend your sheep from the aliens, much like on the single player mode, but this time, you can also control the speed of the aliens on your opponents side, as well as sending a robot to steal the opponents sheep for you. The player who loses all his sheep or has the lesser number off sheep at the end of the game loses.
TowerMadness HD is $7.99 on the iTunes Store. Download now.
Oh my. I am a sucker for this type of competitive game play. Games like the old DOS game Scorched Earth and the recent MMORPG Gunbound had me suckered in and Worms is exactly like this! The objective is to kill other people (on in this game’s case, worms) by using different types of arms, taking into account the trajectory, terrain and the weather! A genius physics type game if you ask me.
Pocket Legends is an MMORPG, meaning you need an internet connection to play. This app is always free. There are in game upsell that happens, though, but that does not take away the fun, MMORPG gaming experience you get from the game.
You choose between three types of characters, an archer, a mage or a warrior, represented by animals. Much like any other MMORPG, you level up the character as you go along.
Pocket Legends is free to download.
Catan HD is a simple board game on the iPad that is based on the same board game. The good news is that you can now play the game without the bulk a real board game gives. This game actually gave me and my friends a few killed time while waiting on the bus to the province.
Get Catan by clicking this link.
Gun Bros is a visually titillating dual stick shoot-em-up game, similar to the NES game Contra or the Playstation game Metal Slug. You basically would have to Rambo your way and kill hordes of enemy soldiers in this game and endure 50 waves to complete each planet. The multiplayer here is that you can connect through Game Center or Wifi and play real time with other bros.
Not really a multiplayer game, but multiple hands and eyes can help out in this game. In Harbor Master HD, you would have to navigate tons and tons of ships into harbors to unload cargo and out. The game ends when two ships crash into one another and it really gets tough after a while. Hence, the other sets of eyes and fingers for help (and fun).
Download Harbor Master for free here.
I am a great fan of Muffin Knight and they recently added the online multiplyer function where you can collect muffins competitively or in cooperation with your friend through Game Center or with a random player. Fun!
Muffin Knight – Angry Mob Games
